When an East coaster says "real", he really means "rude."

Rude is real; nice is fake. Kind of a Moderator cut: profane outlook, 'really'. Sad that so many want to bring that 'tude with them west.

Any time people use the terms "real" and "fake" which are terms only used without irony my cast members of Jersey Shore, they are likely douchbags. These terms are not appropriate for use in normal conversations about cities, not to mention people. You will only embarrass yourself if you are among intelligent people.

New Jersey is a state - not a city.

I don't mean this to be inflammatory, I'm just honestly a bit confused by it and would like to open up a discourse as to what it really means.

Thanks!
I wouldn't say that LA is particularly fake but, it is severely pretentious!

Everyone thinks we are rich and live by the beach. Thanks to katy perry(however u spell her first name), with her song california girls. That stereotype is enhanced.

True Angelinos can be as real and as tough as new yorkers.

Those that talk about LA being fake, moved here to aspire to become an actor or model, never got to know the rest of LA, stayed only within the Hollywood scene, didn't succeed in what they set out to do, and then they go back home a little imbittered telling everyone how fake LA is, so it catches on. Then others go to LA, with the preconceived notion that is a fake city, and since that is what they expect to see, that is what they see as well.

As a transplant who moved to LA for reasons that have little to do with anything in the entertainment industry, my perceptions are not created by that side of LA so much.

When you visit, go see the footprints in the cement, Universal, Rodeo and stars homes who really don't live in them on your first day but after that get out of the box and venture out and explore our city. It is truely an amazing place!
