Default Century City?

Hello again all,

It's been some time since I posted, but we're moving in 2 weeks and I need advice, please. To recap the situation: I will be working at Sunset and Vermont, hubby will be near El Segundo/LAX; desiring 2b/2b apt for around $2500; and we have no kids (yet). We are familiar with LA but haven't lived there.

Dilemma: We have an apt reserved in Century City, on Beverly Glen, for July 1 move-in, but I'm having second thoughts. I love the area, because it's right in the middle of everything, but it's much smaller than our old place (so we have to get rid of or store some stuff, neither of which is appealing), and I can't find a lot of info about the area.

Pros: 5-20 min from everything West LA has to offer (shopping, nightlife, beaches) grocery/gas/car/wash/banks are within 2 blocks; commute (if I take Sunset) should be about 30-35 min, hubby's commute will be reasonable since he won't have to drive to El Segundo on a daily basis.

Cons: Possible high number of students (they just keep a different schedule), and possibly too congested an area. Also, hubby's frequent flying means that we can live anywhere, so that also means that places closer to my job, like Los Feliz, are an option. (And though I still would love to live in Santa Monica, I did a trial run, and I am not up for an hour or more commute everyday).

LA residents - Would you live in Century City? Should I consider Los Feliz for the better commute, knowing that most of the things I want to be around will likely be in West LA or the beach cities?

(And yes, I'm looking on Craig's List and Westside Rentals, and also considering BH if something nice pops up.)

Goldeneyez

Beverly Glen and what? There shouldnt be too many students where I think you are talking about - they are all in Westwood.

everywhere in LA is congested, even the tiniest of suburbs. so that shouldnt be a deciding factor.

i dont know anyone that lives there but i go there very often and the mall there never gets boring. also, CC has its own DT and tall buildings. I researched one time and DT CC has taller buildings than some other major cities do, even though its not even the main DT. for me, i would want a city with a lot going on and i want to live in a DT area in a tall building. those two reasons are why i like CC a lot

That's a great area. Stay put! You literally will have everthing you need at your fingertips. You'll probably become very addicted to the Century City Mall too which is right around the corner. After living there for 6 mos. to a year, you will have a better lay of the land and can decide if you want to move to another part of town. But coming from DC that will be a nice transitional location in which to discover and get use to LA.

Id would say you have chosen a fair place to live given your commute will be in opposite directions. Your husband may have it a bit easier since he can take the 405 or surface streets to el segundo depending on traffic. I think you will be able to map out a route based on trial and error for the times you will have to commute.
I dont think you will find many students, more like a mix of old people and young to mid 30 & 40s professionals.

Default Nice responses!

Thank you, everyone! I appreciate the comments, since so many people keep saying, "Where's Century City?", yet it looks like such a great area.
