Yes, going "up" with the freeways is a solution but not with those earthquakes. Look what happened in San Francisco (the Bay bridge). Many people lost their lives when that double bridge collapsed. I don't know if anyone can REALLY make anything earthquake safe. Something definately has to be done but I'm not to sure about the going "up" idea for the freeways.

For a while I had to commute to Huntington Beach from Thousand Oaks. Seventy-two miles one way. Fortunately my employer was really supportive of flexible time and telecommuting, though the latter is tough to

do if you work on classified projects. I would leave TO at 5AM and pull into the parking lot at 6:05. They let me leave around noon or 1PM, took me about 90 minutes to get home and I worked from home for two

hours from like 3-5. I'd also need to work KFWB and KNX traffic reports because there are at least ten different freeway routes (405, 605, 110, 710, 105, 10, 5 ) home.

So, IF you can flex your time you can sometimes beat traffic.
