I'm a born & raised New Yorker (28 Years in Queens, 5 years in Brooklyn) and I'm looking into SoCal, and narrowed it down to L.A. & San Diego for their climates, and L.A. has a lead due to it being more possible for me to get around via public transit.

I know you've been looking at Westwood and Beverly Hills, but have you considered West Hollywood? You'll probably find a place at that price and is centrally located between downtown and the beaches. It has great nightlife and you'll find a lot of people in the mid 20s. Summer highs are upper 70s to mid 80s and lows in the 60s. Winter highs are in the 60s and the lows are from the upper 40s to 50s. It's a little sunnier in West Hollywood than Westwood as well. What I love about the city is, everything you need is within walking distance so it's a good workout also.

That's a good compromise but isn't West Hollywood a bit pricey?

When I was growing up in Vista, California, it was known as "climate wonderland" because it had more days that were 70 degrees and sunny than any other city in the entire United States. Vista is in Northern San Diego County, and isn't nearly as nice of a town as it was when I was growing up, but if you're looking for that kind of weather the best idea is just to look 20-30 minutes drive from the beach.

This is EXACTLY how I feel! I was born and raised in southern California, went to college in New England, spent a summer in Minneapolis and just moved to Chicago, and I've been suffering this summer in Chicago with the strings of highs in the 90s and insufferably high humidity. When people talk to me, I tell them that while snowy cold winters are sort of a pain, it's the muggy hot summers that I can't stand. As it is, I'm waiting for September/October to roll around here so that the summer ends.

So how many good weather months would you say you have? I mean when you actually feel good going outside and enjoy the warmth of the sun (like SoCal) without roasting or freezing your tail off? Just curious.

I'm glad I am not the only one that notice that. Per square foot, I think WeHo rivals Beverly Hills. The average 1 bedroom apartment is around $1500 and luxuries are $1900+ in West Hollywood.
