The ongoing efforts to restore the LA river into a natural (or semi-natural) river with pedestrian and bike paths hit a few milestones recently.

See this link for a recap of the events.
As Los Angeles's River Runs Again, Designers Determine Its Course - Design is a Verb - GOOD

July 7th: The E.P.A. announced that the entire L.A. river shall be deemed as "traditional navigable waters." This reverses decades long policy and essentially gives the river the full protection of federal clear water law. It also opens the door to more federal funding.

July 16th: The Friends of the LA River held an event highlighting their plan to purchase the 125-acre Piggyback Yard site which fronts the LA River north of downtown. The current site is a railyard/shipping transfer site. The plan is to purhcase the site and transform into a natural watershed with green space and a widened creek bottom.

I wish the transformation of the LA River could move faster but nothing seems to move very fast in LA when it comes to big infrastructure projects.
