It's sad to drive by the shopping center at victory and laurel cyn, where Sears is. We used to shop there all the time, and then head over to to Schabers Cafeteria to eat. Now that area is a piece of cr*p ghetto.

I sure do remember the volcano bar. I remember it being a little square concrete or stucco building on Soledad. It sat all by itself. It was very dark inside. I think I remember seeing alot of velvet. It was probably somewhere across the street from the Mustang Drive In. Do you remember that? I was born in Canyon Country in 1964. Not much there back then. I have seen it grow tremendously. All my fun play areas are gone. One of them was a sand hill, a big sand hill. We would use cardboard boxes to slide down it. It was such a blast. There was also a frog pond I used to love to walk to. But all of it is gone now. All houses. It does sadden me to go back.

We used to visit our friends east of the hospital on Soledad. They lived on a ranch near the power lines a little south of the railroad tracks and Soledad Canyon Road. They had a bunch of pigs. We used to go to supermarkets and get all the throw away produce from them and give it to the pigs. This is about 1974 or 1975. My dad took me to watch the bulldozers build (upper) Castaic Lake Dam, probably around 1969 or so. Castaic Lake in a way replaced San Francisquito Dam which collapsed sending Mulholland into a deep depression. Years later it was proven Mulholland was not at fault for the San Francisquito Dam disaster. |

Mr. Formman has not noticed all the new developments, businesses, parks, etc. As for grafitti we have the most aggressive antigraffiti teams around.
As for the trailer parks, I envy the owners, there land is valuable and many former trailer parks are being developed for new homes and businesses. It is getting harder to define the line between the border of Valencia and Canyon country. The so called gang bangers are mostly wanna bees and small time taggers. I know many of the so called right wingers who are helping people in the community. It is sad how the previous writer paints with such a broad brush and even makes fun of people in trailer parks. Some who may have suffered from the housing market. I will take anyone as neighbors over one particular whinning complaining do nothing hating liberal anyday. Please note that all liberals are not bad. ![]() |
