I enjoy seeing celebrities around town. Last night at The Grove I saw porn king Ron Jeremey walking around, then later saw Rick Fox at the Barnes n' Nobles.

Anyway I always think it's cool to see them, but I feel like my duty as an LA resident is to not bother them, they're just regular people. It's what celebrities and famous athletes love about LA, the fact that there are so many stars around that people just leave them alone for the most part because we're used to it. Anyone else feel the same way?

That's definitely one thing Manny Ramirez said when he came to the Dodgers in 2008. People in Boston are so fanatic, but fans in LA leave him alone.

I'm very jaded when it comes to celebs.

Who's Rick Fox?

Basketball player turned actor. Yeah I don't get all googly eyes for celebs, don't know what the big deal is. There are so many of them in the central valley, I just ignore them.

celebrities also like it that in LA they get special treatment, like if they commit a crime in LA the worst they could get is a slap on the wrist, that can't happen anywhere else

Boston newspapers had major stories of what celebrities were present at Staples center when the Celtics were playing against the Lakers in the finals. Something we take for granted is big news for other cities. I once was sitting at a table in Pasadena when Sean Penn was seated at the next table. Also there was a restaurant in Pasadena owned by Kevin Costner before his former wife got it; celebrity spotting occurred regularly. Though Pasadena is a bit out of the loop since most celebrities live either in the Hollywood Hills or around Santa Monica. I received an autographed photo of Leo Gray, a defensive back with the Raiders when he spoke at a school assembly but otherwise I don't bother to ask for autographs from stars.

I've lived here for decades, I've seen many celebrities and I'm not impressed. I've even met a few, and again I'm not impressed. They are just people, in their case working in the entertainment industry. I'm awed by their power to earn vast sums of income, but I've met people in the biomedical industry who impressed me the same.

Maybe you're star struck.

I hardly ever watch TV or see movies, so I don't know who anyone is anymore unless they're really famous. I could probably trip over a celebrity at the market or a book store, and never realize.

However, if I did run into one, I wouldn't bug them while they're having dinner, etc. That's just rude.

How about Zelda Rubinstein? She's the midget who played the psychic in "Poltergeist". I saw her in a grocery store in Glendale several years ago; she was quite a bit older than in this movie but I recognized her and said hello and asked if she had made any more movies [she seemed to like the attention].

I think that the celebrities have earned the right to be noticed and fawned over and it would seem to be the polite thing to do. When we were in Los Angeles this past winter we made a point of pointing, waving, shouting (and when appropriate) approaching many of the celebrities. They of course tried to ignore us and those we did engage in conversations with, denied that they were even who we said they were. A couple of the biggest jerks we met were Frank Sinatra and the lady he was with, Mariah Carey. I saw James Brolin early one morning sleeping under a bench in Santa Monica dressed up like a bum apparently researching an upcoming role. I tried to engage him in a conversation about his reluctance to appear in any recent high profile pictures and the SOB threw up on my shoes.
