Good morning, all.

I am considering moving to LA to take a job in Hawthorne, CA. My wife, daughter, dogs, and I currently live in Arizona. My problem is that everything I think I know about Los Angeles is from watching 'Clueless', 'Friday', and lots of re-runs of 'LA Law'; I don't imagine that any of those impressions are useful.

I'm sure that there are plenty of nice, modest, diverse, friendly neighborhoods in West LA, but I have no idea where they are. Google tells me that Hawthorne is a 15 minute drive from Loyola in Westchester, but I find that somewhat hard to believe. I'd be happy living further away from work, as long as I could take public transit and not have to sit in traffic. My job won't be too far from the Crenshaw stop on the green line, but I don't know anything about the neighborhoods along the green line.

We'll be going to LA in a few weeks, and I'm trying to make a list of places to visit. So far, I'm thinking:
1. Westchester, near Loyola.
2. Playa Vista.
3. Del Aire.
4. Santa Monica, near the intersection of the 405 and 10.

Are these reasonable places to start? Also, I'm sure I'm missing something. What other neighborhoods do you suggest? Are there communities further away but accessible by public transit that are worth the commute?

Any suggestions? Thank you all for your help.

Andrew

Hey andrew, good bet you're not getting responses because you're not giving us much to go on. Charles must be on vacation so I'll fill in:

Buying or renting?
How many beds and baths
How much can you spend?
Importance of schools?
If your wife works as well, where will she be working?

The more information as you can provide, the better we can assist.
