They are like huge mosquitoes but fly very clumsy in a sort of up and down motion so that cats can easily catch them. They don't have a high pitched buzz like a mosquito but you can hear their wings flutter when they fly overhead. Harmless but annoying when you are asleep and they land on your nose.

Crane flies.

We don't have green June bugs here (Northridge, YMMV).

Daddy long legs are not what I would call large. They are all legs and no substance. A June bug probably weights the same as 100 daddy long legs. They have no bite and don't do anything to humans except annoy us because they're indoors instead of outside.

I never heard of anybody swallowing one.

I have a place on Oakdale Ave. and Strathern in Winnetka and we do have these big emerald june bugs. Everytime I clean out the back yard, I often see dead ones lying around and up close they look exactly like what Domsey said. Some parts of the year I even have to deal with their giant larvae in the ground that frightens me. I still don't know what you're seeing though. I'm not an insect expert... I don't even know what a bumble bee flies like. Maybe take a picture if you get the chance?

Bumble bees fly pretty much like honey bees but they are a bit more clumsy because they're about 10 times larger. They sort of bumble around, and not very smart either because they get confused by things that are not flowers. Like my head for example.

I'm gonna go kill a June bug just to figure out what color. Maybe I can kill one of my question bugs too, although I don't know how anybody could identify a bug from a picture of a splat!

Might be satisfying anyway...

Yeah that's what I hate about a lot of big bugs. They're clumsy. I run indoors when those big june bugs are around cuz not only are they loud and big, but the fact that they keep bumping into me makes me think I'm their target.

Maybe you can have some fun and use a bug spray while in mid air I wonder if your bug will eat away garden plants.
