Hi guys!

I really need opinions on the area of West Whittier-Los Nietos, particularly in this block: 33.983378,-118.064282.

I'll be renting out the front half of this house located within a mile of the specified coordinates and my biggest concern is the safety of the neighborhood.

It is relatively close to where my mom works as her office is in pico rivera (just me and my mom that will be renting this place) so it was an ok find for us since she doesnt like the beltways here but we have no idea if the neighborhood is safe or not.

Please, please, please.. I really hope you guys can give me your feedback.

Thanks in advanced!
-Carl

You'll be fine.

Whittier is one of the nicer predominately latino communities in LA County. There are areas that are a bit rough around the edges, but nothing really gang ridden or anything. Most of the negatives about Whittier have to do with the schools and its proximity to Pico Rivera, Norwalk, and Santa Fe Springs, none of which are all that bad.

Whittier is a great place. I wouldn't mind living there myself.

thanks for the feedback guys! yeah, I've been driving around the block at various times of the day and so far I've noticed that there are a few houses that has children playing out in the front yard late in the day which means its safe enough to be outside.

The community is indeed predominantly hispanic but i don't think that will be a problem since we keep to ourselves.

keep your opinions coming..

Thanks!

So hopefully your settled by now (obviously), how do you and your mom like it now?

I grew up in that area, a little more towards Washington/Broadway area, its not the way it was when I was growing up, but its not a bad area, agreed w/everyone, it has its pockets of bad areas, even Uptown (I managed a complex there on Pickering Ave not too far from the Police Station) its gotten worse in certain areas, but I wouldn't discourage anyone from moving there, its an ideal place to raise a family, your near everything, commute to LA is not bad at all, and most of my friends I went to school with still live out there w/their families, our kids are going to our former HS (Pioneer) & Whittier HS, Cal High, La Serna, (SFS, St. Paul, etc), I have friends in Pico too, feel the same way its just a place you grew up in, feel at home, and to newcomers, you adapt quickly.

To be honest theres bad & good everywhere, unless you have alot of $$$$$$, theres no where near perfect, you just have to choose an area that works for you and your family.

Good luck
