Default LA Apartment Finding Website?

Is there any other website to find apartments in Los Angeles asides from Craigslist? Everything is through a real estate and I'm looking to avoid that and go directly through an owner. Someone mentioned a good website to me years ago and I completely forgot it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Yelp is a good site. You can also read reviews about the community. Also try these...

Apartments for rent in Van Nuys CA . California Apartment rentals

Van Nuys Apartments for Rent

Apartments in Van Nuys, CA on Yahoo! Local

Cool, thanks guys. Yea, I'd rather go through an owner and not deal with broker's fee. Or even a credit check if possible. I know in NYC, it's hard to obtain a good place under those terms but it is possible and all of my apartments have been through the landlord.

i'm not sure if you can sort by "for rent by owner" on westside rentals ... may be worth verifying before paying for it.

Most apartments are going to require a credit check fee for each adult applicant to the apartment. However, some are willing to waive or refund the fee if you have good or decent credit. Always ask. Remember, the competition to rent vacancies is huge right now, some many apartment owners are willing to bargain. Just keep in mind that the final decision has nothing to do with the apartment manager/leasing agent. All they can do is put the proposal forth for you.

You can look up various property mgmt firms, many of whom will showcase vacancies on their website like this:

Good luck!
