Two can play that game.

Just where will these departing people go. Detroit? I think not.

That must be why they complain so much about L.A. when they move here.

Poor people do not pay 10% of their income to state income taxes. At the lower end they don't pay anything at all. Low enough and they get free services or reduced cost services.

I too wish to see a comparison between CA and NY income taxes. EastCoastPirate is spouting off and I'll bet he is misinformed.

You can quote statistics all day long, but it doesn't change the fact that I was born & raised here and have seen it all first-hand. I don't remember ever being asked by any statistician about my education, salary, and if I take any anti-depressants. I don't know ANYONE who has beens asked this information.

So where, exactly, are "they" getting this information.

I've read all about how Massachusetts is one of the "thinner" states which shocked the hell out of me. Where are all these thin people? 'Cause everyone's looking pretty fat to me! When you stay inside for 1/3 of the year eating comfort food, it's hard to stay thin.

Whatever. You can talk all about how the Northeast boasts this and the Northeast boasts that. The fact remains that everyone here is freakishly obsessed with the weather and stays inside for 1/3 of the year. Everyone here has to take massive amounts of Vitamin D to make up for the lack of sun.

I swore I'd never move back here, but I did for my family. And now I have to deal with miserable rude people on a daily basis (not my family, heh) and listen to people go on and on about "the humidity" and crap like that.

I'm glad I moved back and got it out of my system once & for all. Come September, I'll be in LA and I won't be looking back to the "amazing" Northeast with all its thin, educated, and happy people that I've heard so much about but rarely see!

Buy, hey, to each their own. I'm glad you like the Northeast! Someone has to.

All fact point to the East having the most sane and desirable populace (and economy) in United States, yet, the Northeast is still an allegedly (according to you) unhappy place? LMAO!

"Unhappy" = keyword for misfits who clearly gravitate towards whacky places like LA. Los Angeles attracts the wrong type of people.

As an American, I really pity Los Angeles. It would be great for Los Angeles to get back on track, but IMO, Los Angeleles is rapidly declining. The brain drain, the awful economy, the retarded elected officials, the illegal immigration catastrophe, the recent departure of important Los Angeles corporations (which would be fine if Los Angeles had many top-brass corporations, but it severely lags behind cities like Houston and Dallas when it comes to that.).

Los Angeles needs help.

I don't think so.
No I think you have misunderstood. You claim that DCers are wealthy. So I am wondering where the wealth comes from, aside from living off taxpayers? wtf do you people do to generate wealth that is not related to the government?

FYI, DC leads the nation in murders, cancer, diabetes, and HIV infection.

Most of our poverty rate is people from other states/countries who come here for the weather or a chance at hollywood and end up living on the streets.

^ I second ZenMaster. Most of the poor are transplants who thought they could get by without a job and are now forced to live off welfare

i don't think so, most of the poor in LA are people of color and recent immigrants from south of the border. there are a lot of white homeless people, but certainly not enough to fill up a crime ridden area like south central, compton or the central san fernando valley (arleta, panorama city, etc.).
