So I'm finally leaving California for the East Coast. Does anyone have any referrals for reputable LD movers who do smaller loads 1100-1500lbs?

OMG I wish! More like 10,000-15,000 pounds for me, and I hope soon!

Why don't you just rent a one-way truck? Or a trailer?

Or there's this Pod thing, I'm sure you can google it. I think I'm going to hire movers, get a Pod, and rent a truck or trailer, all of them. Plan on hauling the easy (boxed) stuff myself, bigger stuff in the Pod, and movers for the stuff I don't even wanna mess with (like king sized bed and other large furniture).

I think I got more stuff than you. Okay, too much stuff. Been throwing it out on a weekly basis.

Good advice - I will look into the pods. I had one quote from a reputable firm (google moving scams and then read all the research they have don) for that that came in at just over 1000 (assuming 1100 lbs) so it might be 1.00 PP cross country which is WAY too much. I made about 500.00 today selling the little junk! If you have time to sell individually on craigs list and then upsell everyone who comes over, get some extra cash. Sounds like you are in a hurry - me too. Financial mess. This rent just kills me.

There's also a General Moving forum. You'll find people who've just done this research and can share what they've learned. Click on "City-data Forum," then scroll way down.
