Money is just an excuse. I don't know how you can compare "irresponsible sexual escapades" to what women do in porn nowadays. Exactly what is your definition of irresponsible sexual escapades? A one night stand? Most of the more liberal women I've known might be a little more promiscuous than they should be...........but it's not like normal women are snorting coke off dick and having orgies every night of the week. Maybe the women you know but I tend not to associate with that crowd.
What if it's a white guy doing this? Then it's not a problem. Not to take away from the topic, but why do you have to bring race into this? Are you saying that normal white women don't sleep with black men?

Sorry to the OP for swaying from the thread topic, but I had to point this out. I was very offended by this statement.

Just out of prurient curiosity where does the money come from? Seems you can get all you can keep down for free with the zillions of porn sites. Who is actually stupid enough to pay for it? Plus now the pros are competing with every horny couple with a webcam.

According to her-99% of the MILF actresses are still in the industry BECAUSE of the drug use and get paid completely in drugs.
The ones on meth don't last long, since they are insane and unreliable, and very quickly lose their looks. The others are usually expected to take coke as a partial or full payment, and make better money at night as exotic dancers anyway (tips, lap dances).

Where was I?

I left off with the drug use. I can go on and on about that topic and I will if the OP really needs to know.
Lets sum it up by saying there is a LOT of drug use in the industry.

My friend {who I've known for over 20 years by the way} used to tell me about the whole "your dream PORN STAR for hire" thing.
Most, if not ALL of the girls you see will have sex with you for a price.
The more popular the girl--the higher the price.
Go ahead and set your 'boundaries', and secure your "safe word", but the girls that are willing to do "anything" command more money.
AND THEY GET IT!
You'd be amazed at how many "deeply religious" rich men pay for this type of service.
My friend had sex with 2 Hasidic Jews in 2008 and they both were drunk--and one of them used some of HER coke.
---I think it was crack--- |but thats another story|
In fact --he paid for it.
She also was paid for sex with a rich Saudi man who connected her with another rich Saudi who had sex with her and CALLED HIS DRIVER TO VIDEO TAPE IT!

I've got more gems---

But for the OP---
I dunno if your from this type of setting or not.
Hate to bust your bubble.
Either way, the money just isn't there for men.
Gay or straight.
Your not gonna get rich.
Get that out of your head.
Not gonna happen.
At best---you'll have sex with lots of HOT drug addicts and have just enough money left over to support your new drug habit.

***** happens man.
Think hard and long about whatever it is your getting ready to do.
Is it worth it??
For those that are 'stuck' well-----maybe.
Hey---it COULD put food on the table.

Your a single guy with no kids.
Why then?
Cause your packing heat?
Do you know how many guys are just like you?
TONS.
Let them do it.
Sex is sex.
Then it's over.
It's still just SEX.

I hate to say it man--but I have to.
Your a young buck out there in the woods.
Go ahead and find another person that you like, then fall in love and get married.
PORN IS NOT WHAT YOU THINK IT IS.
Trust me.
I know.
If I posted half of the stuff I know they'd ban me.

Well----whats "long" in your opinion?
Ashely Blue only dropped out of sight because of her court dates.
She's still making 'movies' just not online.
Ashely is the same as alot of girls in the field.
They drop out of sight for a while { getting high }...they clean up a little bit---a company deems her worthy---and ka-boom! a hugbe influx of new vids.

Actually, I wish you would post what you can. So many young (and not so young) men and women come to Hollywood looking for fame and end up in the porn industry. Considering that it is an industry in L.A. I would consider your insight to be a public service and of valuable interest.

Drug use and addiction can be found in all walks of life. So can dumb women and men. I'm sure there have also been some very inteligent men and women in the porn industry who have gone on to make better lives for themselves and their families. It isn't a line of work I would go into, but I'm not going to knnock those who do survive by working in the sex industry. At least they aren't collecting welfare and living off the rest of us.

OP here. Please do post any information you feel like, and even if you don't think City-Data would be down with you saying whatever you want go ahead and send me a private message and I would actually really appreciate it.

For the record though, let me just clarify my intention is career pornography, not standard showbusiness or quick cash, and if Los Angeles supports the market then it's worth the move. I'm also not looking to get rich, I'm only looking to make a living and I stated earlier in a previous post that as a statistical income standard I feel around $4K a month is a good living. I could also probably make chump change like a G every 2 weeks and probably still feel content about what I'm doing with my life with the type of relaxed one day a week work schedule most porn actors have.....Your average Broadway nobody pulls in about $2000 a month just for appearing on a scene on stage a couple times a week every and for comparison your average day laborer in Chicago, where I'm located at right now, pulls in about $1200 a month after putting in about 160 hours of their life within a month's time for something they don't even enjoy doing. My problem is I have no idea whether or not the pornography industry out in Los Angeles actually exists and if it's in the same state as the rest of the entertainment industry in L.A. it isn't even worth ****ing with.

Drug use doesn't bother me at all, look hard enough in the year 2010 and you'll find "addicts" everywhere in the world. The only thing that bothers me about that is a lack of integrity in a studio executive's reputation, specially those executives that handle n00bs in the business. I would much rather have a paycheck to go cash than a couple grams of coke a studio executive is telling me is good ****, when in reality it's just some bull**** that's been cut at least 10,000 times and they're handing it out to every employee they do business with. The drugs don't bother me, but not being paid in money does bother me.

I also want to point out as I stated earlier although men, especially straight men, don't make as much money in pornography as women...I'm under the impression that Male to Female transsexual actors, and stunning gay male porn stars make just as much as women if not more, especially the MtF Trans variety which is huge over in Asia right now. I'm sure you're familiar with the ladyboys in BANGKOK, that's basically Thailand's #1 cultural export IMHO.

And like I said, please post whatever you can. I think it would be really good for this thread on a phenomenon which seems to be, can you imagine, a legitimate GOOD reason to move to Los Angeles. And even if you can't post what you want go ahead and hit me up with a private message with some info and you'll have my gratitude.

The ones I've seen look like beautiful healthy soccer moms. Now let's just leave it at that. You're ruining things.

To the OP: This is an article from the LA Times in 2009 which profiled the industry's challenges.

Tough times in the porn industry - Los Angeles Times

One of the porn industry workers interviewed for the piece was a 23 yr old female who claimed to earn approx. $150,000 during the boom times (around 2007) and by 2009 was looking to make about $50,000.
