Time Warner Cable Is Garbage
Does anybody else in West L.A. lose their digital cable on demand feed as a result of not enough bandwidth? This has been happening for more than a year and Time Warner doesn't seem to be doing anything about it.

We are not in West L.A. but last year switched to DirecTV from Time Warner Cable. I empathize with you; Time Warner also has awful customer service.

I can top that.
When Time Warner raised my rate after the first year of service, I decided to try direct tv.
I ordered the package on the phone, and told the sales rep I wanted the basic package, because it was what I felt I could afford.
After explaining the available programs in the basic package, I said no thanks, and the rep said he would give me an upgrade to the next level with the programs I was interested in, and I would pay the price for the basic package for ten mmonths, and the remaining two months would be at the price for the next level package, which I would be getting.
I agreed, and the installer came in a couple of days.
Installation was free.
So far a good deal.
When my first bill came, it was no where near what I had been quoted, in fact it was twice what it should have been.
I called customer service, and was told I had ordered the upgraded package, and that was reflected on my bill.
All said and done, the sales rep was not authorized to sell me the package he did, because that package at the price quoted, did not exist.
I told them I was going to cancel the contract seeing as where I had only had it for 6 days.
A month later I get a bill for damm near two hundred dollars for an early cancellation fee.
I told them "when donkeys fly".
I turned it over too the state district attorney's consumer's board, and direct tv had to remove the fee, and cease trying to collect it.
I now have dish network, and so far I like it except in stormy weather.
It loses the signal in bad weather.
Bob.

I'm not in West L.A. and I don't use the "on demand" thing, but the service has been awful lately. Tiling, tearing, halting, interrupted audio, and for the past couple weeks the cable modem randomly loses sync for minutes at a time, sometimes longer.
Good luck getting anyone on the phone when you call. Be prepared to listen to a lot of elevator music and recorded sales pitches.

I too have been getting the tiling. It's now happened around three or four nights within the past several weeks. The first time it happened, a recording at the TW customer service number stated that their technicians were working on it. Apparently, they did not work hard enough since the tiling occurred two or three additional times within several weeks.
Additionally, there are the total blackouts that will occur for 3-5 seconds, usually during the most interesting portion of any given program.

Time warner sucks. I've had them for years (don't have the option of switching to DirecTV) .....
I have NEVER had on demand. Let me clarify - my service has is, but it never works. I've taken this up with Time Warner several times, and they've never been able to fix it.
Granted, I've always gotten to the point of them needing to send a tech out, which I simply don't have the time for.
Its a battle that I've given up on fighting. I basically have my own "on demand" now, I use my DVR to record anything I want to watch, then go back to it when I've got time. I also have Netflix which I use for "on demand" movies.
Good luck.
Edit: I should add, that as a general rule, present topic excluded, Time Warner has been good to me, as far as service goes. I've gotten accustomed to the rate increases, and while I hate them, there is nothing I can do. I rarely have issues with the internet going out, and I've never had a problem with TV service going out.

A quick perusal of TW on yelp will reveal that yes... they tend to suck hard.
Unfortunately, many are left with no viable alternative in some cases.
Aside from the astronomical price, DirecTV rules imho. Though I am stuck with TW internet which is garbage, and I'll switch as soon as another provider becomes available in my area, which is rumored to be soon...
ps. I'm not on the westside, but this is basically TW in general. They've got a pretty good racket running in many areas, so they have little incentive to improve much of their service.

I hate to have to tell you this, but there are programs you're probably missing that are ONLY available via On Demand, unless you have an expensive package. For example, Top Gear is only available via On Demand because my package doesn't include BBC America, so I can only watch it streaming. Same goes for various other shows -- On Demand is the only way I can see them.

Mine includes BBCA, and I hate Top Gear. It goes to waste over here.

I think i have it too. I enjoy British T.G., and I'm almost positive I have BBCA.
Nevertheless, I have so little time to watch TV, its never been a high priority.
