Sigh. I guess you've never been to LA. Glad you're delusional, though!

Have you ever lived in Boston?

Hey... some people love it. I did not find it to be particularly sophisticated. Some of the best colleges are there, yes. My friends in Boston & in LA are pretty intelligent & well educated. Equally so, I would say.

Parts of Boston are beautiful. My style is more modern, contemporary, & clean. Boston is too old & crumbling for my tastes. Cobblestones are quaint 'n all, but a pain to walk on or push a stroller on. Not very practical. A lot of places (restaurants, stores, etc...) have stairs and are very cramped. Never really bothered me before I had a baby. I have no idea of how disabled people make it in Boston. And it's practically impossible to get from point A to point B without getting lost.

EVERYONE I know in Boston gets lost all the time. People who lived there for 60+ years (i.e. my mom, aunt, etc...) get lost.

It was wonderful moving to LA and realizing I could get from point A to point B fairly easily. And if there was traffic along the way? I could take point C to point B. There are usually 3 or 4 or more ways to get somewhere. That's pretty unheard of in Boston. And no one-way streets here. And most streets have more than one lane.

I could go on and on so I'll just stop.

Cool! I'd love to find out where to go for social dancing. I can't dance, myself, but I love the music and I like watching other people dance. Especially the Tango.

I really really wish there were an old-fashioned dinner club w/ an 18 piece orchestra & torch singer.

I would like to be that torch singer, hee hee.

As far as local stuff ... I train at Fullerton Dancesport Center in Fullerton. They have a Friday night dance every Friday, and sometimes they have Saturday dances too - just depends on whether the place is rented out or not. Every night of the week they have group lessons, but you have to check the schedule. There are also provate lessons available. This is a training center for competitive dancers. We have some of the BEST trainers in the world!

There are a lot of places I go for social dancing, I can send you a link to the ballroom dance stuff that has everything that's going on. But right now, I gotta go - my Thanksgiving guests just arived.

Happy Turkey Day!!!

Readymade, I'm happy to hear your back home in So. Cal. Like you, L.A. is in my blood. I'll be moving back to L.A. in less than 1 week. 10 years ago, I moved to the Bay Area from Southern California for a job opportunity in San Francisco. 5 years ago, I moved to Phoenix (way to hot for 6 months straight). I've spent the past year in Portland, OR. (cold, damp rainy & depressing for 9 months out of the year). Finally, like a prodigal son, I'm coming home to my beautiful L.A. I've learned to never take her for granted nor will I every leave her again.

That's exactly how I feel! It makes me feel good to know that I'm not the only one moving around the country like a crazy person, heh.

We visited Portland to possibly move there, but I vetoed it. We're both depressed if it rains more than 3 or 4 days! We'd NEVER make it in Portland!

Living in so many different places has really made me appreciate LA.

readymade, it's funny you mentioned feeling like a crazy person moving around the country because I felt exactly the same way with all my moves. Actually, I lived a couple of years in Honolulu, too (from 2003 to 2005). Besides living in the cities mentioned in my previous post, over the years, I've had the opportunity to visit about 40 states. While I enjoyed visiting many places, there is no place in America where I'd rather want live besides Southern California. It's comforting for me to knowing there are people that think & feel the same as we do. Now, I can't wait to get my feet firmly planted in the L.A. area and again developing strong roots there. By the way, if 3-4 days straight of rain makes you depressed, imaging what month after month of steady rain and gloomy skies would due to your psyche. It's way beyond depressing. I believe you made the right decision not moving to Portland. Take care & Happy Holidays :-)

I've been to almost 40 states too! As well as several countries, and I agree that I can't think of anywhere else I'd want to live. Kind of thought about moving to Hawaii, actually, but everyone I know who did that regretted it.

I've thought about retiring, some day, in Costa Rica, but I think the bugs would kills me. Literally, heh.

Good luck with your move!
