Moonchild, sounds like climate is your primary objective so I'd go for Long Beach if you want hot weather.

Narragansett has gorgeous unspoiled ocean beaches and attracts surfers. The school system is good. However, it will be cold in the winter, not much snow- since we don't get much snow in RI on the coast- but it will get cold and windy.
Spring, summer, & fall are beautiful here.

Funny that you said Cambridge, Ma is not like Europe! Not like Italy obviously! Cambridge is like England. New England is the most European section of the country with the exception of some older cities like San Francisco, New Orleans, Charleston, etc.

Hi, I'm from rhode island. I grew up in providence, lived in cranston, pawtucket, westerly, warwick, n.providence.
I've been to narragansett several times over..I currently reside in los angeles ca. I will tell you that I wasn't impressed with long beach, or at least the areas I went to.
The weather is wonderful..but its crowded and less beach like than they want you to believe. Narragansett is more spread out, roomy, less people, and secluded.
I love california. I hope to see a better side of long beach but so far, I haven't.

Oh and about massachusetts..I love mass, and cambridge isa great area. There are some rough spots, with low income housing and crime, but overall its a very posh, educated, thriving place to live. I love california, but I also love the east coast. Its hard to choose when you love both.
But so far I'm enjoying the weather here, large streets, big skies, and mountain views.

The schools in Long Beach are just "ok". Not good, not great. However, nearby cities like Rossmoor and Seal beach have EXCELLENT schools.

Not entirely true. Wilson and Poly both have excellent academic programs, but one needs to be motivated in order to take advantage of those.

I don't know much about Long Beach specifically, but Narragansett is borrrrrrrrring. Summers are decent, but winter is too cold. I would go for CA.
