Default Nice place to relocate to within 100 miles from L.A.

Hi everyone!
I know my question is a little naive, but I wanted to know if there is a decent place to relocate to within 100 miles from L.A. area.
By decent I mean affordable housing, somewhat clean air, low crime rate, good job market (sounds like a place that doesnt' exist in that area), but I am willing to look at any suggestions.
My husband HAS to be close to L.A. (which i am not a big fond of), but I am willing to look at reasonable options around that area.
Thank you!

What is the significance of 100 miles? Why not 50 or 25 or 150 miles?
Where is his job?
Where is your job?
What is your budget?
How old are you?
Kids? Ages? Planned?
Do you prefer a certain demographic?

Between Santa Barbara, Palm Desert, Palmdale and Carlsbad, out of 33000 houses sold in the past three months, about 9700 of them sold for $200K or less.

If he's a film maker, don't you need to live a lot closer than 100 miles? Like a 100 blocks?

Realistically, Oceanside will probably be your best bet to meet everything you're looking for. Air quality deteriorates significantly away from the coast during Summer(ruling out much of the IE) and most coastal regions are expensive. Oceanside and Fallbrook should have pricing in your range and a bonus of having Metrolink there to take the train in to Burbank(where studios are). Oxnard/Ventura also may work, also have the train, but also have plenty of areas you'll want to avoid

I still am bothered by the 100 mile requirement. It just isn't realistic.
