Hey everyone. I've been to LA a few times when I was younger, but this summer, some friends and I are planning on going there alone. Besides things like Venice Beach, Universal Studios (maybe) and related areas, what kinds of things are there to do that appeal more to young, brash, somewhat reckless, testosterone-driven males?

The Sunset Strip is pretty much the 16-18 year old hangout in LA now.

I did lol. Concerts are always an option, banking off of that particular thought.

disgruntled, could you possibly elaborate on The Sunset Strip?

Mainly concerts and pseudo nightclubs that appeal to teens. Local bands, sometimes a little bigger. A lot of teens go because they are often 16+ or don't enforce age. They are strict about the drinking though. Whisky a gogo, the roxy, key club are the main ones for the underage kids.

But when I was your age the big thing to do in LA was house or apartment parties, since you could drink and have fun (define that as you will). it's not too hard to sneak into some UCLA/SMC parties, for example.

Interesting; the idea of infiltrating a UCLA/SMC party hadn't occurred to me, but we're definitely going to try that. Thanks!

Lurkers, any other ideas? We're planning on staying there for more than a week, so we've plenty of time to screw around and have fun.

I second the concert idea. Since you will be here over the summer, I would look at the Hollywood Bowl schedule and the Greek for bigger name bands that might be in town, also Nokia Theater, LA Live, Staples. If you like sports, a Dodger game can be a lot of fun. The Santa Monica Pier does live music every Thursday night (I think) in the summer. Universal Studios and Citywalk could be a good place to meet some girls your age and that could lead to house party invites, etc. Or better information on where to go from local youth. Try the beaches during the day to meet other kids your age and see where they hang out.

When I was growing up here, it was mostly house parties. We did go to a lot of concerts, movies and local amusement parks but to really "party", it was all done at other people's houses (preferably when parents were out of town).

Run around to the various house parties around town, madly scramble into whoever's car to escape the busts, regroup in a park or somebody's garage, repeat. Avoid drunk drivers, btw.

Just don't take pics and post 'em from such merriment, as nothing good ever happens from this.
