My fiance and me are coming to LA soon....he is an actor but in case life doesn't work out as planned, we were curious about the fitness industry in CA....he has also been a personal trainer for 20 years. The salaries I see posted seem nice....but what about the industry there in general? Is it more private training or health club oriented? And is everybody really rolling around on balls out there??

What choo mean "rolling around on balls"? You talking about medicine balls, or those big inflatable things people use for sit-ups?

As far as the industry goes here, it's everything. Private training, huge clubs (Bally's, LA Fitness, LA Sports club, Equinox, Crunch, 24 Hour Fitness, Gold's Gym and more), you name it. My GF is a yoga instructor for a small studio, but also does work for individuals AND for bigger gyms. It runs the gamut.

To be frank, personal trainers that are wanna-be actors are a dime a dozen out here. Don't get me wrong, anything can happen. But unless he is dedicated, and ready to spend months, possibly years trying to get a break, if ever, I wouldn't do it for that reason alone. Consider personal training "Plan A" until "Plan B" (acting) starts to unfold.

I meet lots and lots of people who do both. For the trainer angle, the thing is to develop a following and a rep. Being really hot looking helps a lot. The above response says the rest of what I was going to say.
