As someone who also likes attending free music events here are some resources I use. I don't list the ones that would apply only to summer -- such as Grand Performances as someone mentioned, as they start in June, but are excellent. Most cities have free concerts in parks during the summer and there is quite a variety there. While it sometimes seems this time of the year most of the events are classical there are definitely some others you can find. Someone mentioned Amoeba and ExperineceLA, these would both be good for finding something other than just classical. Happy Listening!

Go here and click on the 2011 Festival Guide and you should find some -- all types of music at festivals
