Like I've said before, stereotypes don't work well here. I have to chuckle when I hear people use absolutes like "L.A. is crap, L.A. is perfect, L.A. is a hell-hole." Los Angeles, like any other city, deserves more credit than that. It's alot more pronounced here because there are so many different ethnic groups, income levels, neighborhoods, etc.
I live in NELA, Mt Washington/Highland Park to be precise. Been there 14 years, love it. It ain't bland or predictable like the burbs, and it ain't NYC, never has been, never will be and that is no accident. My parents moved here in the 50's to escape East Coast winters and get post-war jobs. Oh yeah, and the weather was a lure to be sure, but they really just wanted a new kind of life. And that they got!
