I am in San Diego, and I have really never seen a single gang here. Even walking the streets of the gaslamp districts at night, it has been pretty safe but I am just curious if LA is the same way.

Try driving around Logan Heights.

It depends on where you live in the city. I went to LA and didn't see any gang members but I was confined to the area around LAX, Hollywood, Playa vista, Downtown during rush hour, and Santa Monica. Go farther inland and you'll see em. Its not called the Gang Capitol for nothing.

Even here in Chicago, we have more gang related homicides than LA... but I feel really safe throughout most of the city... go farther south and west of the city and it looks like Beruit. Gang crime tends to be concentrated to certain areas. I used to go to a school with lots of gang members, but they all died, went to jail, and were driven farther out of the city due to high COL.

I'm not really understanding your question, but I'll answer to the best of my ability.

I've seen gangbangers, but I've never had an "encounter" with them positive or negative. They don't go out of their way to mess with you and just stay in their little part of the neighborhood that they "own".

The only destruction you can see is the vandalism of marking their turf (which is usually done in the dead of night).

Yes I've had encounters with gang members. Many. Even, at one time, daily.

I'm beginning to think I must live a tremendously interesting life.

I haven't had any gang encounters in my 4+ years in LA... the most I've seen are gang tags.

I've seen them occasionally , depending on the area you find yourself in you may or may not see them. The gang thing has died down a lot since the 90s. Many are not as noticeable as before

In the 8 years I've lived in SoCal, I've never had a gang encounter, and I've been all over LA.

I don't know if I've seen any gang members or not. How can you tell?

This is the weirdest thread yet. What type of clueless people live in LA and can't recognize gang members?!? I see gang members nearly every day although nowhere close to as many as a decade ago.

I lived in LA for 20 years and I have not yet had an encounter with a gang. My ex was affiliated with them, but I met him after he left his association.
