Line 4 runs very often late into the night but can also be just a little scary at night.

The Metro Rapid 704 will take you to the southern tip of Westwood (Westwood/Sta. Monica Blvd), but that's it. As for WeHo to Compton, you're out of luck. As a life-long user of LA's transit system, assuming it efficiently reaches both of your destinations, I find it to be fine for short trips under 5 miles, but anything over that, you're best off with a car. Keep in mind that vast portions of the city have no rail service, and are reliant on traffic-prone, bumpy buses. The Rapids (7xx buses) are a step above of the locals, but many do not operate into the late evening, or at all during the weekends.
