I put $30 of gas in the tank. I drive for a short time and the fuel is draining fast. If it's not the gas station, then how much should I put in a gallon?

I know the gas prices are high, but jeez!

I like Shell since you get 10 cents off a gallon with your Ralphs card!

I can't speak for LA county, but in the westside the 3 cheapest gas stations I've seen are

San Vicente/Barrington
Ocean Park/a bit south of Pico (the 76)
Cloverfield/10 Freeway

The three most expensive gas stations are the 76s on San Vicente/26th, San Vicente/Bundy, and Wilshire/26th. I don't know why anyone would pay 50 cents more a gallon on San Vicente/Bundy versus San Vicente/Barrington (a few blocks away).

I haven't seen cheap gas in L.A. only when I leave L.A. and drive out to the desert.

Major price difference. I saw gas in the desert last week for $3.09.

I'd go with a gallon if I were you.

I just saw this site, but never confirmed the prices myself. Los Angeles Gas Prices - Find Cheap Gas Prices in California

I'm paying $50/week and I drive a hybrid... hopefully I can save some $$ from this.

If you have a question about the accuracy of the pumps at the station (it's a little difficult to tell from your post) there should be a state agency (there is in AZ) that checks the accuracy of the pumps, and you could report it to them.

Edit: Here's the link for that info for CA: http://www.dca.ca.gov/publications/guide/weights_index.shtml (broken link)

I'd make sure there is no leak in your fuel system first, though (I've had that experience!)

I would second this and add that you can use a credit card (AmEx) without an extra charge.

However, if you aren't close to a Costco, Arco generally has the best prices if you pay in cash.

At those prices the best gas station is in your neighbors driveway. Just after 1:00AM!
