Hello Angelenos!

Just spent a week negotiating LA's streets and freeways (>3 hours a day, different areas each day).

In order to make a megalopolis this congested work so smoothly, the numbers say that the majority of drivers have to be average or better, and I believe that. But the worst drivers in your fair area are the worst drivers anywhere, and this belief comes from driving hundreds of miles each throughout 25 major metro areas in the past year.

The worst part is that these horrid drivers aren't talking on their cellphones or texting while driving, or not that I could tell.. they're just horrendously bad.

What puzzles me is how the bad LA drivers still manage to stay bad behind the wheel. Surely at some point they would no longer be able to drive after a number of accidents, or other aggrieved motorists would follow them and give them a healthy knuckle sandwich?

I've attached a tangentially related poll.

Wrecks are inherently caused by folks not doing what they're supposed to be doing - which is driving.

A couple months ago the 101 was backed up by some rap band who did an impromptu concert right there in the middle of the freeway. That's one of those things you read about and you just go "Only in LA!"

They are looking for that oh-so-ever-evasive thing that they need RIGHT NOW. So what if that means their eyes are not on the road?

Driving, what?
