I was driving with my mom today (who's visiting from Boston). We came up to a stop sign. My mom briefly stepped on her brake pedal and then continued through.

"You know... you're supposed to come to a complete stop," I reminded her.

"I DID! I mean, at least I paused," she replied. Apparently, she thinks that briefly pressing down on the brake means "complete stop" (the car did not stop fully). I didn't also point out to her that it was the other cars' turns to go through the intersection.

Made me think of this thread.

Driving through LA with my mom today was absolutely terrifying! I literally screamed "MOM!" at least 12 times thinking we were all going to die. "What?" she kept asking, having no idea of what I was upset about. Boston drivers are the worst.

He stopped me, but didn't give me a ticket - just a warning, as I was going to be making my turn at the next street to get to my house. So, I always make a complete stop regardless of what time of day or night it is - even if there's not a soul on sight. Just to be on the safe side.
That was nice of him. Unfortunately for me, I was stopped by the quota-driven CHP who were staking out a stop sign at the bottom of a hill for the express intent of generating money for the state. However, I actually cost the state money since I got out of paying mine by fighting it, so the state wasted the time of a judge who had to read through my trial by declaration and make a decision based on my remarkably well written case file, then the time of clerks was wasted by refunding my bail, etc.

Not exactly a waste of the State's money. The judge, clerk, etc. are all on the clock doing what they are paid to do.

Good luck to the OP.
It's actually called the "California Roll."
