Hippies, punks and artists are all pretty different.

I'd say punks in downtown at night.

Hippies, still in the hollywood hills/venice areas,

And artists are all over the place. Silverlake, Venice, Downtown, etc...

Basically LA is too expensive to have Bohemians, everyone there must WORK WORK WORK to pay high prices for rent, gas etc,... so they are tired and broke and cannot come out to play! So they lose their way and become either caught up in the "Scene" or become broke and destitute in high crime, gansta-ridden areas. There are no cool low priced areas for "Artists" to live outside the mainstream. You gotta either find a way to take art to a commercial level and make bank or end up working your "get by till I make it job" forever...

Sorry, but previous angry guy was right and maybe that's why he's angry. No more hippies and bohos in LA.
???

All of my friends are artists in some way or another. And they live everywhere... Pasadena, Glendale, Burbank, Altadena, West Hollywood, Hollywood, NoHo, Venice, etc...

Some of them make good money. Some of them are struggling. Most are in-between.

Actually, I was just at a party last Saturday night (in Altadena) where pretty much everyone there was bohemian/hippie. Literally everyone I met (for the first time, mind you) gave me a huge hello hug.

Just because you didn't encounter any doesn't mean they're not there. They're all over the place!

Where you're at, if you just paint portraits of Bobby Knight, they'll stop making fun of you. Might even make money.

Sorry truth&love, I think I was just having a bad day and took your post the wrong day. A lot of people are under the mistaken impression that everyone who lives in LA is an airhead when I haven't found that to be so at all.

I would say worst thing I could say about the personalities out here (in regards to flakiness) would be that people often don't call you back. From friends to businesses. It's oddly acceptable to not return phone calls/emails here. And I really hate that about LA. But other than that, I've found most people to be very warm, artistic, and intelligent.

The "sunglasses at night" crowd is definitely here, but they're a minority.
