Visit the URL I posted at the end it will tell you all the new attractions they are going to build during the next three years. The pictures are only the FIRST phase of three phases of LA Live, but thats not it...they are going to create LA's own version of Le Champs-Elysees of Paris on the Grand ave.

It seems like it will end up being a more 'upscale' Universal Citywalk?Unfortunately the shopping, dining, entertainment will be very expensive i'm sure..but hopefully it will be worth it. Kind of interesting to think of a Ritz Carlton in downtown L.A, but I would hope that visitors staying there would also check out some of the historic downtown L.A , like phillipe's , the wholesale districts in downtown, olvera st, little tokyo ,chinatown,

But they might just stay within the confines of L.A Live and take a shuttle tour of Rodeo Drive..kind of sad..

I think LA Live will be a great addition to downtown, especially South Park. Unlike Hollywood & Highland and Universal Citywalk, there is a residential neighborhood being built around it at the same time. So I think it will become a destination for both tourists and for residents both from downtown and from other parts of the city. I liken it more to the success of The Grove. I think downtown is in the midst of a major renaissance and once it reaches a critical mass of residents and visitors the retail and entertainment amenities will continue to follow.

Hollywood and Highland has tons of residential behind it, new units being developed in it both right at the intersection at the southeast and southwest corners, even more at Hollywood and Vine, more at Sunset and Vine and more residential neighborhoods to the south, southeast and southwest. Most people aren't familiar with them. Directly behind is Camrose, Whitley Heights as well as a plethora of apartments. South Park is building so many I worry about flooding the downtown market. Universal Citywalk is completely artificial, like a movie studio I guess...

I find the L.A. Live project really, really, really exciting.

Hollywood and Highland was not done very well IMO, and it was built in advance of the new residential development taking shape along and around Hollywood Blvd currently. Also I think people who live in Hollywood already have a lot of options nearby for shopping and entertainmet, so H&H really has not changed the dynamic of the area that much IMO. It's just another tourist trap mostly. Whereas in downtown you basically have a brand new neighborhood being built in South Park and LA Live is a centerpeice of the overall redevelopment and transformation of the area. I predict LA Live will have more of the dymanic we see at The Grove and less of the touristy ambiance of H&H and Universal City Walk.

I have to disagree with you about H&H. I moved away for 4 years and barely recognised what I saw when I returned. Hot and happening clubs, real entertainment venues, lworld class shops, locals and tourists alike cramming this spot 7 nights a week. I don't see how it's a failure. This place pumps 7 nights a week until 330 or 4am. L.A. Live will be something in addition to, not instead of. I look forward to completion of the first phase. Many long time residents are prejudiced against the Hollywood Blvd area just as many think the whole downtown area is a wasteland. I of course don't believe either and enjoy watching areas come back to life. Walking my dogs down Hollywood Blvd almost daily lets me see plenty at street level.

What would really excite me would be another resoration push for the theatre district on South Broadway. Ours used to be bigger than Manhattan's and we have treasures like this (recent photo of the Los Angeles Theatre):
