Burbank, CA help PLEASE!
21 year-old looking at the possibility of moving to Burbank area in order to work at the Burbank Airport. Are the neighboring communities (where apartment would be) safe? If so, which communities would be recommended?
Thank you kindly in advance.

Almost all the cities in the San Fernando Valley (where Burbank is) are safe. But, like any other city, the bad areas are mixed in with the good areas.
So how much are you looking to spend and how many bedrooms do you want in an apartnment? Also, is public transportation a need for you?
If you answer those questions, it would be easier to narrow down the areas you should look for.

I just moved from Burbank to Greenville, SC 4 months ago. I lived in Burbank for 9 years and loved it. I lived up Olive Ave. and my wife and I could walk down to the mall, movie theater, Ikea, Barnes & Noble, shops and restaurants. That area is the best part of town but the most expensive, over by the airport is cheaper. Next town over, North Hollywood is very, very dicey, i.e mexican gangs.

I'd stay in Burbank and look into an apt. "above Glenoaks". You can catch the MTA bus lines to the airport and won't have to worry about parking.
As far as surrounding communities.... I wouldn't waste my time. No. Hollywood and Glendale, Sunland/ SunValley... no thanks.

Montrose and La Crescenta are a pretty short drive (about 20 min if you take La Tuna Canyon to Burbank) and both communities are very safe and loaded with apartments. The local paper is the "Foothill Leader," but it's often best to drive through the areas and look for signs as not all buildings advertise.

In a way you are sort of lucky because there is a commuter train which runs to the Burbank airport. Gives you a few extra alternatives (anywhere between Camarillo and Downtown LA) for where to live without having to worry about traffic.

We no longer live in LA County (having grown up my entire life in the SFV). But we're about 1/2 hour from it and every time we go back down there, the traffic, the smog and the rude people remind my husband and I why we left and why we have no regrets about it. Sorry, to me, Glendale is just too congested (not that Burbank isn't... a drive down Buena Vista takes almost 20-25 minutes now). Why live in Glendale and pay the same for an apt. when you can live in Burbank?!? I don't see the advantages.
