The AEG idea is a huge pipe dream. This is nothing more than a drawing on a sheet of paper, while the City of Industry deal is ready to break ground and has gone through all the legalities needed.

I pray to god it doesn't get built way out there. Why build a stadium in a far off suburb where there is no public transportation option? At least with Farmers many of us would have that option. Downtown Los Angeles is the best location.

The new Giants/Jets stadium was built all the way out in the boondocks (amongst the swamplands of New Jersey, to be exact). Cowboys Stadium was built near Six Flags Over Texas (surrounded by highways and strip malls). The University of Phoenix Stadium was built on a desert farm. Dolphin Stadium was built near the Everglades. Lastly, Gillette Stadium was built in the middle of a forest.

The NFL has a long history of stadiums being located in the middle of nowhere.

Granted, the AEG plan is ideal in terms of convenience. However, there isn't one NFL stadium that has been built IN a downtown area.

The Metrodome in Minneapolis is located downtown.

But this stadium will not only be used for football games, it is also an entertainment complex that has the possibility of hosting final four games and the like.

Would that be a good thing or a bad thing for the people of Los Angeles?

I should've been more explicit in my post. All of these cities mentioned above have NFL stadiums that are located just outside of the actual downtown core (or city centre).

This Farmers Field (if it does get built) will be the first NFL stadium that's located within the midst of a downtown area.

IMO, I think it would be great for the city of LA. This will definitely draw people from across the country when events do come about and it will also stimulate the local economy. Possibility for the summer olympic games to come to LA again!? That would be awesome . Traffic congestion? It's already congested and honestly I don't think there would be a significant difference from now until if and when the stadium gets completed. The only way for the city of LA to ease traffic congestion is to create an extensive rail network which is what Metro is trying to do right now.

Except that part about the city of Los Angeles providing $350 million in bond money to tear down a portion of the LA Convention Center. AEG will pay $1 billion to build the stadium. But part of it has to built on land that currently holds the convention center. The city of LA has to foot the demolition bill. Not to mention AEG is basically getting a sizable portion of land basically at no charge. They want the city to use money made from city owned parking structures to pay the bond payments every month.

So no, it is not totally privately funded. When you consider the bond money and the extra land parcel AEG is receiving the city is probably fronting them close to half a billion dollars.
