I was wondering if Mt. Baldy Village is a nice place to live. I go snow boarding at the ski resort a lot and I was thinking about moving there. I like how Mt. Baldy Village is very alpine and rural and at the same time close to Los Angeles (Claremont). Is Mt. Baldy Village safe? The commute to work is not really a concern of mine because i m used to it. I lived in the mountains since i was 2 years old , I used to live in Topanga , in the Santa Monica Mountains and i had to drive 10 miles to get to the nearest store and it was not a problem for me.

Sure, Mt. Baldy is safe, but if you want to live in the mountains, why not Lake Arrowhead, which is thousands of times prettier and nicer than Baldy village? IMO, Baldy village is pretty rundown and seedy. The real estate market in Arrowhead has slowed down about 40% from the peak and you can get a very nice house there for $300,000 now. The type of person that lives in Baldy is generally older, eccentric and they don't keep up their property or homes (many of them). Arrowhead is just so much nicer for a mountain community.

It appears that way, my brothers wife's family has a cabin out there, and his wife's family are (how to put nicely) probably the crowd that your refering to, they go up there usually to party, so that says it all...

I heard mixed reviews about Big Bear and Mt Baldy. I heard that Big Bear is party town that is kind of seedy with shady characters with a lot of child molesters ect. ex cons per square mile . i m not worried about snow boarder party stoner dudes , what i m mostly worried about is hoodlooms that will break in your house steal your stuff. One of friends lived of years and nothing happened to him , but a couple of weeks ago one my mother's friend home's was broken it and everything was stolen.

Again, you DO NOT want to live in Mt. Baldy. You also don't want to live in Big Bear, that's an impossible commute to anywhere.

Lake Arrowhead is the play. It's a 40 minute drive from Mountain Ave., the exit off the 10 that leads to Baldy.

Crime is not the issue, it's the seedy element up there.
