I need advice. I'm originally from Miami. Things fell apart there, so I joined Job Corps. I've been in the program for a while. I'm in Utah studying under T-TEN(Toyota Technical Education Network).

I have about a year left, but I'm trying to plan ahead of time. I want to move to LA when I'm done. Staying in Utah is out of the question. I don't like it here, there's no ocean or sun, and it's extremely quiet with nothing to do. The choice is between LA(or around LA) or South Florida. I don't want to move back to Florida though, because my best friend lives in LA and I have no real connections in Florida.

Although I have a friend in LA, when I move, I won't be asking them for much if any help.

I was wondering how the automotive job market is in Los Angeles. Especially if there's anyone here who works for Toyota. I'll be getting my Electrical ASE in a month, and a few more this Fall, and more to come the spring after that. On top of that, I'll be Toyota certified. So I'm wondering how my outlook for employment might be in the LA area. If there are any techs here, do you get paid a reasonable salary at your place of employment?

Also, I don't plan on living in some nice area at first. I grew up in the slums of West Palm Beach, FL, and lived for a while in Miami, FL... I'm not afraid of SOME crime. I wouldn't mind a fairly decent area that doesn't rain bullets, though. Would you mind naming some? I checked LAPD's crime map, but it's down. Fairly decent to me is that I can go a whole month or two without a crackhead trying to sell me a VCR with a box of tapes or a set of blown speakers... lol. I'm half kidding, but I hope you get the idea

Thanks! I'm just trying to prepare ahead of time. Also, I do not intend on being an actor, artist, musician, or anything of that nature. I figure, with all of the traffic in LA, it can't be too unreasonable to go there with the intention of being a tech at a high volume dealership.

EDIT: I was also wondering if there's any programs that help with transitions such as the one I'll be going through. I'm 23, so I'm too old for alot of the help that my research has led me to.

There are a ton of car dealerships and auto body shops in the San Fernando Valley. Look closely into Van Nuys and Reseda to work. Check Craigslist that should give you some idea. You can find nice and inexpensive (for LA) places in Canoga Park, Tarzana, and the better areas of North Hollywood.

Toyota is popular here (judging by the number of their cars here) so I'd say you should have no problem finding work at a repair shop that services them.
