Looking for a home and thinking of Glendora...think i will have to take the 210 West to downtown in the morning and back on the 210 East at night (7am-5pm shift).

Does anyone have a similar commute? How long is the commute? Any shortcuts?

Would not take the 210. That is ALWAYS jammed from Pasadena to downtown and back again at night. Here are 3 alternative options:

Take the 605 south to the 10 west. At that time you are looking at 45 minutes in the morning and my guess is around an hour at night.

Drive to the METROLINK station in Covina and take the METROLINK to downtown LA. Check on parking at the Covina station though.

Drive to Pasadena and use the Gold Line subway to get downtown. Check on Pasadena parking as well.

I second the covina metrolink station. Thats only a few miles from your home and an easy ride into downtown. You can sleep/work/relax on the train and it's cheaper too.

Yes, in fact it's jammed from the 605 interchange on, after about 6:15 a.m. Avoid the freeway or, if you must take it, leave Glendora or surrounding areas before 6:15 a.m. (it will take you about 30 minutes to get to downtown L.A. then). However, you'd then have that awful freeway commute back, and rush hour starts at about 3:30 pm going east from Pasadena on.

Not really a problem in the morning if you leave early

Hour commute home in the afternoon.

But remember Pasadena to Monrovia is not very far, only a few miles. OP, what do you consider a reasonable commute? My husband did it from Glendora to Burbank many years ago. Of course he was in a car pool which helped. I drove from Glendora to Arcadia to work almost daily. The secret is to set up a flex work schedule, if you can, leaving before 7am or after 8:30am.

...and it doesn't clear up in Monrovia. It's a parking lot all the way to the 215. (And, sorry to say, the 10 E is not much better.)

How long ago was this, Nita? In the early 1990's, it wasn't so bad from the east San Gabriel Valley to downtown LA. They've done a lot of building in the Foothills and surrounding areas since then.

That's an alternative; then you can zip by others while in the Diamond Lane, or at least for some portions of it.
