I'd rather walk down the Strand saying ^this than debate the 'merits' of those who say "LaLaLand". About as endearing as "The Gay Area".

But LaLa Land has been used for a long time and we always called it that growing up, my dad would always talk about the liberals down in LaLa Land who had no clue about how the economy works and wanted to shove through yet more taxes and social programs.

Turns out, he was right I don't ever call it that because I live here, and it seems weird to call it that if you're a resident, but other people ask all of the time, "So, how is LaLa land treating you?" It's mainly because in a general sense people in L.A. are just out of touch with reality.
I just moved out here and everyone I ever spoke to back east always used the term "LALA Land."

Every time I tell someone I am moving back to LA after I am done with nursing school the FIRST thing they say is "Ahh, back to LALA Land, huh?"

Every. Single. Time.
My parents included.

I have learned to just nod and smile. I mean, I lived in Texas for two years, so I learned to sit and shut my mouth and smile like an idiot when people talked, because if I actually said what I was thinking all the time....poor Texas would have never recovered.

Everyone tells me that when east coasters order pizza and the waiter asks if you want cheese on it, you say "no" then, just run your fingers through your own hair and decorate.

It's like the above poster said. "La La Land" is to Los Angeles is what "Beantown" is to Boston.

No one actually calls it that except maybe out of towners.

So someone once sang that rents are cheap in LALA land... and something else that I can't remember.
I think that was back in 1945 or something.

I have heard the term LALA land mostly on the news when talking
about Holywood or music stuff.
