Yeah. That's what someone said in a reply to a youtube video.

"It sure is weird, but then again, this is LALA land!"

I lol'd when I read that.

And I thought "So, LA has their own version of 'Keep Austin Weird' or something like that?"

Interesting. Does anyone hear such a term?

What terms do Angelenos use when referring to any weirdness in LA?

I've never said it and I've never heard anyone here say it. I hope it stays that way.

What I say when I see weirdness:
"Hey look at that freak"

Probably the same thing someone from Dallas would refer to something that is weird in Dallas.

"LALA Land", while a little more pejorative, is in the same category as "The OC" and "Cali".

I hear it usually from outsiders or someone who wishes they never moved there.

I agree if an LA/CA resident uses the term. But when an outsider uses it IMO it's much more pejorative. Like my friend commented I had been in "LALA Land too long" because I've become a Kings fan.

Interesting.
The exact case where I saw the comment was on this video:

YouTube - Santa Fe 3751 Steam on the I-10 Freeway
And the post: "Surreal!! Looks weird...but it is LALA Land."

Note: Doesn't that sight look awesome?

That's an extremely common saying, yes, I can't believe anyone anywhere in the nation wouldn't have heard that. It's one thing that we have "Keep Portland Weird" (if Austin uses that, they stole it, Portland used that first, see Portlandia), that's not something I would expect anyone to know outside of Portland (it's on bumper stickers, at businesses, etc.). But LaLa Land has been used for a long time and we always called it that growing up, my dad would always talk about the liberals down in LaLa Land who had no clue about how the economy works and wanted to shove through yet more taxes and social programs.

Turns out, he was right I don't ever call it that because I live here, and it seems weird to call it that if you're a resident, but other people ask all of the time, "So, how is LaLa land treating you?" It's mainly because in a general sense people in L.A. are just out of touch with reality.

My wife called LA that when she had first moved down here, it did not impress me.
