That's not true. I have friends born and raised in LA that say "Cali".
Again, it's just quicker to say.

Moderator cut: off-topic, political

As for the original topic it is widely known that the SFV has had much white flight the last two decades, but as others have pointed out some aspects of that "culture" if that's what you want to call it, lives on in some of the newer residents.

yes, more in Northern CA than Southern CA but in Southern CA as well (and on the east coast too, look at Flushing in Queens or Fort Lee, NJ).

It only took a decade in Arcadia and Temple City. Compare the 1987 demographics to the 1997 ones.

And South LA used to be South Central when the area was majority black.

The days of South Central and Valley girls have long been gone.

They moved to Orange County and have teenage daughters who are like valley girls but are from "The O.C"

Instead of saying "like totally" they say "like whatever!"

Yes, in the same ways described previously, Asians (especially Taiwanese in the SGV valley) only patronize the shops of their countrymen. So many of the wonderful preppy stores and hallmarks of old San Marino and Arcadia went the way of the Dodo. Really sad actually but what can you do. Another reason many folks left.

Growing up in South L.A. during the 1970's, we used to say "what's happenin' dude?", as we also greeted each other with "what it is blood?"
Lately, 'dude' has again, become a formal greeting, particularly among folks under 40.

'Blood' back then, was'nt necessarily refering to gang affiliation as much
as it was an affirmation of kinship, like 'bruh'* in the Afro American community in South Los Angeles.

*'Bro' has evolved into a different, less urban colloquialism.
