Default Where can I take (in your opinion) the best photos in LA?

I'll be in Los Angeles for the second time at the end of this month. I fell in love with the city the first time, and now that I'm going back again, I want to really explore the city more.

So, with that said, where can someone on foot take some great photos of LA (architecture, skylines, etc)? Obviously I'll have public transit options to get me from point A to point B, but anything that would require a car is not an option for me on this vacation.

Thanks in advance.

It really depends on what kind of photos you want. Personally since transportation is an issue I would do a project on the using the few rail lines we have. We don't have that much light rail so it should be manageable to even travel them all.

Maybe start down on the coast in Long Beach and travel up the Blue Line towards downtown LA. It goes through some questionable areas but just go during the day and you will be fine. On that journey you can stop at Watt's towers which should give you some good shots. From the Blue line you can then get to the red line which will take you out to the hills or the gold line which will take you to Pasadena. Any way you do it, you will find plenty to photograph.

So just find somewhere to stay along one of the rail lines, (although make sure to double check the areas first). Maybe something downtown if that is in your budget. Then you can access the three main lines easily.

I would avoid the buses unless there is somewhere very specific you want to go. They are fine, just not as convenient and can cause headaches trying to find the right ones.

I would love to see your pictures once you are done.

I'd suggest going about it the other way around. I say that because there are SO MANY great photo opportunities that you're bound to find great shots no matter where you are.

For example, there are some beautiful art deco style buildings (the old Bullocks Wilshire and the Wiltern Theatre come to mind) along Wilshire Blvd--but they're mixed in with ho-hum skyscrapers and banks and other everyday buildings. So you probably wouldn't go on a walking tour of the mid-Wilshire area with the idea of taking amazing photos but, in fact, that's just what you'd end up getting.

So my suggestion is just to go where you're interested in going--and make sure you have your camera ready. Since I moved back here I've taken amazing photos in the unlikeliest of places--which is why I make it a habit to take my camera with me almost all the time. You just never know what you're going to stumble upon!
