Default Forest fire worries?Green valley,Lake Elizabeth,Lake Hughes area

I visited the area this spring and saw evidence of forest fires near Pine Canyon road, I guess northeast? of Green Valley,Lake Hughes, Lake Eliz. Is this a rarity in this area or not? I wanted to live in Green Valley or surrounding areas, but worried about the fires. It seems there is only the main road in and out of these areas, I suppose they might close those due to fire right? I fear being at work in Lancaster and not being able to rescue my pets if I lived in Green Valley!! Also, it seems there is a lot of construction of new buildings and stuff as I drove up from Palmdale, is 'civilization' encroaching on the area?? (I prefer solitude). thanks !

Fires are up there yearly so it is a problem, brush clearance around your home will help.Of bigger concern is the fact that the San Andreas Fault runs right through that valley so if the long overdue big one hits expect major damage.Green Valley also has big problems with getting water so check that out as well.

thanx for the info! I am actually leaning now more towards moving to the outskirts of Tehachapi, or perhaps north of Bear Valley Springs. Does that area have a big history of forest fires? (I mean the kind that take out homes and stuff). Or does that area have trouble getting water also?

How much do you want to spend on a home? West Lancaster is very nice and prices are falling so you can get some deals although my advice is to wait a year or 2 as prices will be down alot by then. I sold 3 homes 2 years ago and am waiting out the Bubble burst and will pay cash in a year or 2 in W Lancaster. If you stay near AV college or newer areas of Quartz Hill you will like it there.I know the area well so if you tell me what you want size of home budget etc i can point you in the right direction.Bear Valley is a long drive from Lanc and so is Tehachipi.

Actually I am now focusing on the remotest areas west and south of Tehachapi to live. I am an x-ray/mri tech and could easily get a job in either Bakersfield or Lancaster. I hope to also volunteer at the Exotic Feline Breeding compound in Rosamond. So at first I thought Green Valley would be a great place to live. Now I am thinking I want to work in Bakersfield, but still be within an hour or so of Rosamond for the cat place. I want to be up in the hills, with tons of trees, nature and wildlife (that's why I asked about the forest fires). I want a nice, remote area around 3000-4000 feet elevation probably? A bit of snow now and then in winter ok, but not cold and snowy for longer periods like the higher elevations have~
Am looking at the $225-300K range or so.

Sounds like Tehachapi for you although the winter months it dose get cold up there and also the desert.Iced roads when wet and snow in the hills but not alot.Tehachapi is a very small town and not much to do and RE prices I think 300k will get you a place.Prices in Bakersfield are crashing and deals will be made in a year or so but very hot in summer and toxic air in the San Joaquin Valley due to farming.Welcome to California it sucks here.

I'm more interesting in finding out about the availability of 911 service in the Green Valley area. I know there was one incident where 911 didn't find a hiker, but in general, if you have an emergency, how close is fire/ems and the hospitals from "downtown" Green Valley, CA?
