So I'm moving from Florida to L.A. [ Yes, I have a job there before anyone asks ] I definitely can't afford to live on my own so I was going to look for rooms for rent. I DIDNT want to sign a lease and end up living with a crazy person (background checks only cover so much lol) so I looked for people open to a month-to-month.

I found a nice house with a furnished room in a neighborhood cul-de-saq off of Woodman and Sherman Way. North Hollywood is a stone's throw away. I did a crime check in the area and it didn't come up with a whole lot and now I'm reading how awful the area is. I've seen pictures and used google maps and the houses all look nice.

It is REALLY that awful? Obviously I can move out whenever I want to, I just want to be prepared. I'm a runner...is it not safe to run around there during the day? Now I lived in downtown Orlando which has an awful crime rate (the police crashed the building across the street from me multiple times for arrests), so "bad crime" is a bit different than what others think

Van Nuys isn't pretty BUT recently it feels like there's a lot of nice apartments being built round there. I keep coming across nice apartments in Van Nuys and I get tempted to go for them but then I have to remind myself "Wait... it is Van Nuys"

I've never actually had problems in Van Nuys. It's just ugly. Quite trashy. Whats your budget? Why not Sherman Oaks? It's just south from there.

I'll be living in a house in a neighborhood. The guy owns the house but needs the extra money so it's only $700 all utilities included--which considering the power bills I had to pay here in Florida is practically the same. He was having a hard time finding someone to live with his very large dog but I love dogs so I don't mind.
