26% excluding taxes (true housing costs plus insurance)

35% including taxes

If the federal property tax deduction ever disappears, large parts of the Northeast, especially New England, will slowly collapse. A regular house (e.g., a 3000 square-foot ranch) in my neighborhood now exceeds $1000 per month in property tax.

And one more thing. Im looking for a safe neighborhood to relocate in. I was used to the atmosphere in wilshire and westholme, its near wilshire and westwood. But considering that the rent there is ridiculously high, i have to seek an alternative. Any advices, 1200 rent max budget for a safe and refined neighborhood. Thanks in advance

Assuming your $4700 a month take home figure is accurate I'd budget $1500 for rent. That will get you a much nicer apartment in a good area and still leave plenty of money for everything else. Otherwise you better be OK with a small studio apartment.

Just a word of caution - landlords can be very picky about pets.
