Our politicians won't do a thing to stop it. LA has had it's problems for the past 20 years, and IMO has been on a steady downhill decline.
Why would you expect the government to step in now and "help" ?
Furthermore, there is nothing the government can do to save LA. How do you deport 1-2 million illegals? How do you stop them from breeding out of control? How do you get these idiots to stop gangbanging and living that "a-hole" way of life?
You dont.
Get out while the getting's good, and let these idiots fester in the crap hole that they made LA to be.
what a great shame this is premed429. It saddens me to hear that a city with great history, romance and great qualities such as the weather and the coast can develop in such a bad way. It seems that many people living in the city that post on this forum share your frustrations and I feel sorry about that. It seems that the government are happy to let this happen whist both meddling and spending money on international problems that from where I can see boils down to greed. It almost seems that they are happy for illegal immigrants to wipe themselves out through violence towards each other and I have to agree with you, it doesnt seem that there is any light at the end of the tunnel at the moment. Where are you plannning to move? Perhaps everone should move to somewhere in South America, great weather, great coast lines !!! ( just joking)

It seems as if you have a romanticized view of Los Angeles, my friend....as does much of America.
The truth is, people like me are only looking for one thing. Good neighbors, a safe place to live, good wages, an area that is not over-crowded as well as the "American way of life".
I plan on moving to another part of this country where the American way of life is strong and prevalent. Where liberals don't rum rampant in the streets and in the local politics.
A place where....."the good ol' days" of America can still be found.
If not, then I plan on starting my own community one day. I know there are thousands of Americans, just like me, who are looking for the same quality of life that once was. It shouldn't be too hard to instill myself as the mayor of a small town and build it up towards grandor. And no, I do not mean some "cult-like" religion or extremist. Just a place where everyone abides by the law, wages are good and the quality of life is great.
premed 429, wherever you go I wish you every luck and happiness, dealing with th type of things you have mentioned I believe you deserve it. Let me know how you get on, who knows, I might move to your town! You seem like the kind of person that can achieve anything you want to.

Well thank you very much. I just want a nice, clean, safe area to live in.
If anyone on here see my writings on these forums, and agrees with my points of view, and you live in a state/city where the qualtiy of life is good, please private message me.
I do want to leave, but first I need to grow the ba!!s to make the move.
I am slowly realizing packing up and moving to another state is not as simple as it sounds.
In looking at other states, I can reasonably expect my salary level to fall downwards of 20-25%.
yeah sure, Im from England, I grew up near Liverpool, then moved to Bournemouth down south with family and about 1 month ago I moved back up north to Blackburn to start university. I live in a one bedroomed flat with my mate that is at going to Preston university, we have converted the front room into a bedroom! as you can imagine being in full time education money is not easy to come by but we are both happy enough and doing ok. Blackburn as a town is not very big and has a predominantly asian population, We live in the Asian area and although you do see racism both ways it mainly comes from white English people towards the Asians. I have to say that I have never had any problems and some of the best friends I have made so far are Asian. I hope that this information is good for you, feel free to ask any more questions premed429.

The question is: WILL we stand up and at least TRY and fix the problem. You might be right about LA, but I'd bet if all public benefits were cut off, stiff penalties against employers providing jobs to illegals- they would begin a mass exodus of self deportation. You're also correct in your question of "How do you stop them from breeding....?" You can't, but you (we as a nation) can change whether we PAY for that breeding. It takes work and it takes cajones. It means voting politicians out of office who are not hearing our voice. Unfortunately, we've all got so complacent and lax in our westside living to be willing to do what needs to be done.
Thanks for listening to my very first post on the board!
Hey, TasmanianShe-Devil, I'm expecting some energetic posting from you to go with that name.
A continuous problem throughout the history of all governments is "social engineering." How do you "fix" people? I personally think one fixes problems, not people, and all but the dumbest louts will see there's a better way for them. (See recent sci-fi movie "Serenity" for a logical progression of worst-case scenarios of social engineering.)
Bighappy started this thread to get suggestions on how he could improve the lives of those the government services left behind, and we locals have done our best to enlighten him as to the realities of the danger he might face in trying to achieve that goal here. He is going to find a very entrenched subculture of bullying accelerating to violence, predicated upon the power-grabs of the desperate, garnished with machismo.
Social engineering-wise, I personally think Los Angeles is a lost cause for middle class American workers, and, as one, will vote with my feet by leaving the nanosecond that my husband retires. I've observed that the partisanship of the competing cultures here is so extreme that the uniting sociology of democratic values/efforts found elsewhere in the U.S. will never again have a foothold here, as if New York never grew out of its "Gangs of New York" phase an devolved into an evil version of Quebec. Separatism and partisanship are the accepted norm here, and belief systems that hold that they do not have to go along with American laws. Already, Mayor Villaraigosa, as the unelected but now legal Superintendent of Edication is planning to supercede mandated, state law about maintaining English immersion education, and going back to separate all-Spanish textbooks. (The proof is that Open Court has already printed them.) I sure didn't vote for this super-partisan guy, and he thinks he wants to be President of all of the citizens of the United States?!?
For anyone that is not from Watts or is interested in the situation there I have found some articles by Michael Krikorian in The LA weekly news that I feel gives people an in depth insight into the frustrations of all people that live there. The articles are entitled Unlivable Terms and War and peace in Watts part 1 and 2. Any comments or opinion are welcomed.
