This place (Walnut near El Molino) recently closed after being open since 1964.

I thought I heard the cashier saying something about reopening at some other location or even the same - does anyone know? Their burgers were good.

Rick's closed around 8/15/2011. Don't know if Rick's re-opened elsewhere but "Bobby's" opened at Rick's old location around 8/18/11. Let's give them a try and hope their burgers are as good as Rick's.

Rick's is now called, Bobby's Place. The scuttlebutt that I've gleaned is that the original owner sold the business, with the entire menu intact (but with a name change), to an employee. All or most of the workers are unchanged and aside from the name change, I'd never know the difference.

The owner of that corner lot has been trying to develop the property for housing, and Rick's has been on a rollercoaster of "will they have to close" or "are they safe" for years. Their website (now dead) used to have a "save Rick's" section for comments. Here's a 2007 article from the Pasadena Weekly:

Reprieve for Rick's - Pasadena Weekly

I heard that the development of the corner is being held up due to environmental issues but the stand could be forced out at any time.

I have no connection with the business aside from being a long-term satisfied customer.

The place is now called Bobby's Place and the counter girl with the tattoos said everything's the same as before. And I would agree now that I had a cheeseburger there.

Update: this restaurant is moving soon, to 140 N. Lake which is just south of the Ralph's. I don't know why or exactly when.

Somebody wrote on Yelp that it will be closed for a month before or after moving, too.

Thanks for the update, ate here quite a few times when I lived in Pasadena. Loved their burgers and beef & bean burritos.
