Hi Nicole - I could see the frustration in your post and that's what I was trying to address - and not sound too preachy in the process!
I moved to LA from Fresno 17 years ago so I find the weather here a HUGE improvement. I live in Highland Park, which is directly between downtown LA and Pasadena so doesn't usually get as flaming hot as the valley. Seattle is beautiful and I like it there but I honestly don't know if I could take that much rain but I can certainly see why the adjustment (weather wise) is difficult for you.
Anyway, welcome aboard!

It would appear that residents (whites especially) in Los Angeles are becoming more racially paranoid of one another.

To some degree, I agree with the OP. In general, I get a much different vibe from Latinos in LA than in other places I've lived... a more hostile and occasionally overtly racist behavior. OF COURSE.. this does not apply to all, especially not from the more affluent Latinos. I feel it more from the women than the men.

Where I've really noticed it, is if you call someone (who is Latino) out on doing something socially inappropriate... no matter how polite you approach them, more often than not, you'll get attitude and some racist remark in return.

Just so you know where I'm coming from... I'm a white dood, in an interracial marriage. My best man is American of Mexican descent. My sister is married to an American of Mexican descent.. I grew up around Latinos (in Texas) and have lived in several cities in north and socal. I've had zero issues with Latinos until I moved to LA. To me, there is just a different (general) Latino culture here...

My two cents.. flame away.

I agree TF, having lived in Alhambra and Whittier, while working in and around East L.A. with a 'blaxican' sister. I also have lived in several cities in north and socal. And still do live half way to Oregon. I've also had zero issues with Nortenos. But yes, there is significantly a different social vibe among SoCali Latinos. Much less tolerance towards others. I have been told and read that it isnt so much about race as it is heritage. Cultural euro-spanish tradition, discourages non-hispanic association. I hope the current generation will be eager to disprove my notion?

There are a very small community of filipinos in Panorama City, and viets in Reseda. But thats pretty much it. Yes, the valley is obviously not my favorite place to be. Even living So. of Blvd you're still around it all.
Well I'm not disagreeing that there may be racism in that area. However, you're from Seattle, every place may seem racist to you by comparison. LA is quite segregated, even the Asian communities may SEEM like it. Few if any other cities have an "International District" where all Asian communities (and a few non Asian) are all integrated like Seattle has.

As far as the Valley itself goes, can't say much about it, haven't lived there.

They're not Mexican but are often still considered Hispanic.

There is a difference between NorCal and Socal Latinos I agree. Sounds like there is in Texas too.
