One drop rule.

In your experience, are there a lot of half-Asians (preferably half-Asian women in their 20's ) in the LA area? How does the number/concentration/amount compare with, say, the Bay Area, Sacramento, SD, or anywhere other than Hawaii (which, as I understand it, is Hapa-central)?
In my experience, you will find a lot of bi-racial White/Asians in the beach cities (Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach, Redondo Beach, Torrance)

No evidence to back up that half asians with white mothers look more white. I've seen all kinds of looks from all kinds of mothers and fathers. There's also a significance difference in appearence from my siblings

Also no evidence to back up that half white/asians are assumed to be latino, and half black/asians identify as black. No one has ever called me or some of the other half asians I know latino. I know a few have been mistaken for brazilian, middle eastern, pinoy, or just plain white.

Anyway to the OP: There are probably more half asians in so cal than north. But that's anecdotal and could be incorrect.

That's been my observation. There's probably nothing that could absolutely prove this.

1. There is no Brazilian race. Brazil is a majority white but multiracial country like the US, although less hypocritical when it came to interracial mixing traditionally. The US has made progress on getting rid of the "one drop" nonsense and accepting mixed race people in recent years but there's still catching up to do.

2. 90 percent of half-Asian/half-white people in L.A. whom I talked to, including former girlfriends, close friends, and neighbors, have said that they have been assumed to be Latino, including by Latinos themselves. Of course Latino is not a race either. However, half-Asian/half-white people would literally be "mestizos". You lived in Pacific Palisades, northern Santa Monica, and West Hollywood, which are amongst the least Latino places in L.A. County. If you lived in the Valley, Northeast or East LA, or for that matter the Pico neighborhood of Santa Monica you'd probably be thought to be Latino, too . I have observed these phenomena over the years.

3. Pinoys are Asians. And this is a proven fact. Not an observation.

Out of curiosity, where is the Black/Asian population the highest in the state?
I'd guess Alameda County but I'm not sure.

In terms of numbers, there are more "half-Asians" in the Los Angeles area; however, in terms of concentration (ie. percentage of the population), it's higher in Bay Area. For the most part, it roughly correlates with the "Asian/Asian American" population distribution, since there would be no "half-Asians" without any "full Asians" around.

As for the subset of "half-Asian women in their 20's", they will most likely be found where any woman in their 20's will be found -- colleges and universities, bars and clubs, shopping centers and malls, porno movie sets, etc. "Half-Asian" folks aren't a monolithic group. A Hmong/Ethiopian woman from Long Beach is quite different from a Japanese/German woman from Chatsworth or a Korean/Mexican woman from Whittier.

As for my experience, we're a little bit beyond the "half-this" and "half-that" thing in Hawai'i, since the math gets a little complicated when ethnically mixed folks get together and have children. Some folks in California have offered the term "quapa" to describe folks that are a "quarter-Asian." If the trend continues, we'll see the term "octopa" used to describe folks that are "one-eighth Asian" and so on, which is uncannily reminiscent of the terms "quadroon" and "octoroon" that were used to describe various African American admixtures.

Several of my ancestors were "true hapas" (ie. Native Hawaiian and "white", Native Hawaiian and Chinese, and Native Hawaiian and Japanese). I have "half-Asian" siblings, cousins, and nieces and nephews. In the end, it doesn't really matter much what end of the "Asian" gene pool some of our ancestors might have swam in, since we're all related.
