Default Record low rainfall?

Hey all. I just read on another thread that there was a record low rainfall last year. The person didn't specify southern CA but I have to assume that's what s/he meant because s/he said it was only 3.4".

So is this true? Does that mean we can hope for more rain next year???????? I have a slanted point of reference because I moved here in March of 2005, and there was indeed rain, but everyone said that was highly unusual, and there were the mud slides and all that. I do recall some rain in 2006 but can't remember how much...and now in 2007 I swear I haven't seen a drop. It was getting me pretty down and am hopeful that it's true that this past year was lower than average. If anybody who's been in California for longer than I have can help me out, I'd be grateful.

ETA: For reference, I live about 15 miles east of Pasadena.

D'oh! I guess this is why God invented Google. End Pavement » Los Angeles 2007: “The Driest Season Ever” Sorry, folks.

I am really, really hoping it will be wetter next year. Even my husband, who was born and raised in LA County, is sad that the hills are so brown.

We've had a couple of seasons where it poured rain for days but don't get your hopes up. This is the desert not the rainforest.

I did not expect a rainforest, and for the record, it was my husband who brought this up between the two of us...and he's the Cali native. Obviously HE wasn't expecting a rainforest, eh? Having lived here for 31 years...

I was asking a simple question and I appreciate your input.

heh heh.

Some people come here because of the lack of rain. Why do you want rain? You like more lush landscaping or just like the sounds of raindrops on the roof? Just curious. I like watching rain through the window but it slows traffic to a crawl.

We have long dry spells, then a period of storms dumping lots of rain at us in a short period of time and filling up all the reservoirs and ground water supplies within days. That's the way it is here.

Actually, semi-arid, not a true desert which is defined as less than 10" of average annual precipitation.

I love watching the rain and being in the rain and having anything to do with it. It washes away dirt and makes everything from people, trees, flowers, grasses and animals whole and beautiful. Notice how gardens, ponds, rivers and forests come alive after a rainfall. It's life in droplets.

OMG!!!!!!!!!! David, will you marry me? Oh wait, I'm already married. Oh, he won't mind. Another income in the family, you know. Anyway, his name is David too so at least I wouldn't get confused...

All that is to say...I wanted to post something very similar to this, actually, but was nervous about it because I don't know that everyone necessarily feels this way. I figured I'd just look like a goon again. Thanks for this very poetic post.

Stop it. You are making me blush . I won't think of anyone as a goon for taking about something as vital as rain, an important source of water -- something we can't live without. Thanks for the kind words.
