Manhattan Beach is much nicer than Santa Monica. Its cleaner, less "touristy", no homeless and a better place if you have kids to raise them.
Most potential LA Transplants dont move to M.B. because they dont hear about it in the tabloids or on TMZ. They all want Santa Monica, Brentwood, Studio City, Sherman Oaks, Malibu because they seem to think thats where the action is so they want to move there. If you can find a place in Manhattan Beach by all means go for it. You would not be disappointed.

I'd take Santa Monica over Manhattan Beach! You can't beat the location of Santa Monica. It's all about the Westside for me!!
