Howdy all,
OK. I need a break from putting stuff away in my new place. Me and my sweetie want to go to the beach. But here is the catch....we have no car and live in Canoga Park. It's hard to tell from the bus map how easy the beach access is, and I am on crutches....I can kind of walk but not well yet. Does anyone have any ideas?

Contact the bus company directly and they will guide you on your route. They're very good about it.

take a bus to ventura/topanga. from there, take the 161 to calabasas. There is an independent company beach bus run by Calabasas that is located at the Commons which will take you to the beach for VERY cheap.

Thanks, but I guess my question is more about access once I get there. i have been to quite a few beaches on the coast here, mostly around Laguna, and there was cliffs with LOTS of stairs to get down to the beach. So basically, I am looking for a straight shot from road to beach. So I am just checking ahead of time if anyone can tell me which beaches in general to stay away from, especially as I am unfamiliar with Topanga and Santa Monica beaches....which would also be the closest...from the looks of things?

The Calabasas Beach Bus goes to Zuma, it's flat from the parking lot to the water. Well, as flat as a beach gets. No cliffs or stairs but I don't know about crutches in the sand or getting sand in your cast. That doesn't sound like a lot of fun.

Zuma is the way to go. You walk from the parking lot directly onto the sand. There is food as well.

Someone told me once that taking Amtrack to Santa Barbara was the way to go. Amtrack lets you out right on the beach/downtown in Santa Barbara. I know you can catch Amtrack at the Metrolink station in Chatsworth.

Not quite on the beach, it's about a quarter mile to the beach from the station in Santa Barbara. It would be a nice walk without crutches. When I took the train from Moorpark to Santa Barbara it took almost 2 hours. Their printed schedules seem a little ambitious.

Hmm...Zuma seems the way to go then, thanks so very much for the replies! Nothing worse then spending a bunch of time going somewhere only to find out I can't enjoy it!!

Luckily for me I have no cast....I did this back in January so I have limited mobility on crutches...I should be able to SLOWLY make may way across the sand :-) Also good I have a patient sweetie!

Don't think I'll be surfing though.

Thanks again everyone!
