Call the gas company. They'll check it and adjust it if necessary - for free. They think it's better to provide these services than to let people blow themselves up.

Just a note that double paned windows do not block out all the noise. They help but you can still hear street sounds (and the neighbors) when they are closed. Don't go into the next place thinking there will be no noise just because of the type of windows.

That's fine. I don't mind hearing SOME noise. The windows I have right now are so poor that I can hear full conversations and eavesdrop; it's almost like being on the street. Hearing some noise is ok, as long as it's a little bit less than what I hear now. Next time I will ask to stay in the place for awhile during peak traffic hours and observe the noise levels.

I have no issues hearing some noise; just less than what I'm hearing now since this building is really old.

You just gotta be patient man. After a couple of months you won't hear it anymore. Even the drunk people won't wake you at night. You'll only notice how loud it is when you go to somewhere that isn't loud. Try getting some ear plugs in the meantime.

You're going to hear cars and noise outside your windows anywhere you live in LA, unless you're rich enough to live on a private estate. It seems like EVERY apartment in LA is facing a major street, boulevard or freeway. You just can't get away from that if you live here. I complained about the noise on Sepulveda Blvd., but then moved into a place facing the 101. Now that was truly awful. I thought my apartment on Burbank Blvd. would be better, but it's still pretty noisy. You really can't get peace and quiet around here unless you have the money.
