Hi, I was just in LA over the summer. I absolutely loved the city but I was less than impressed with the beach that I visited. Redondo Beach had a ton of seaweed everywhere that I went along the beach. Is that normal? I plan on returning next summer and wanted to get some suggestions from locals (or people who are familiar) with the area about what beaches are the best to hit up. ( On a bright note, the service workers were light years nicer than here in the North East where they look at you like you are a ghost if you even mention the word free refill )

Most LA Beaches have seaweed. If by 'clean' you mean 'pollution free,' then head up towards Malibu.

Not exactly. South Redondo and Torrance beaches typically have the least polluted water in LA County, if only because they share a relatively small watershed. Conversely, Malibu has some of the most polluted water. Beach Report Card for California

Seaweed? Its the ocean, dude. The presence of kelp beds is a sign of a healthy ocean. Periodically, it dumps more of the stuff than on the beach than others. Usually there's not that much.

All the beach cities have early morning tractor pulls thru the sand to make it all purty for tourists and purists. Before you complain you may want to look at the tide tables.

That could possibly be me not being used to the Pacific. Most Atlantic Ocean beaches that I visit (e.g. Virginia Beach, Ocean City MD and Daytona Beach FL) had little to no seaweed)but the seaweed in Redondo Beach (right by the pier) really threw me off. I still was extremely impressed with the natural beauty of the hills around the beach though

I always encountered more seaweed than I liked down in OC (Newport, Corona Del Mar specifically). Last time I was in Malibu, the water was the same color as root beer.

I'm pretty sure that pic isn't in CA.

I did not partake in the root beer water.

LA county beaches are notoriously polluted. Best to go to OC beaches or even better, further south to San Diego
